HOW TO MAKE BOIL EGGS
Most eggs that humans consume are chicken eggs. An egg is laid by a hen on a farm. Eggs are then collected by farmers for distribution to markets and grocery stores. An egg may be prepared in a wide variety of ways. One of the most common ways to prepare an egg is to boil it. Boiling an egg is not difficult. Eggs are commonly eaten for breakfast. Follow a few simple steps for the perfect eggs.
Choose fresh eggs. Make sure the egg you are using isn't too old. Egg cartons have expiration dates on the outside of the cartoon. Open the top of the carton before you buy the eggs. Look inside the carton at each egg. The carton should contain no broken shells or eggs that look discolored
Place the eggs in a pot. The pot should have high enough sides so that the eggs can be covered completely with water. There should be enough room on the bottom of the pot to place each egg. Do not place too many eggs in the pot or the eggs will break and not boil properly.
Cover the eggs with cold water in a sink or right next to it. The water should be at least an inch greater than the top of the eggs. Carefully lift the pot with the water and the eggs and place it on the stove. Turn the burner on to a high setting
Let the water come to a boil. If you want soft boiled eggs, leave the pot on the stove for 5 minutes. If you prefer hard boiled eggs, leave the pot on the stove for at least 15 minutes. This will harden the interior of the egg
Gently slide the eggs from the pot. A colander is ideal for this purpose. Run cold water over them for at least a minute to stop the boiling. A bowl of cold water also works as well.
Place the eggs in the refrigerator. Cooling them down will make them easier to peel. Place the eggs on a plate. Tap each one with a spoon to form cracks in the shell of the egg. Carefully peel the shell of the egg. Eggs that are hard to peel may be tapped against the edge of a kitchen countertop to help loosen the shell. Serve the egg with salt and pepper if preferred.
